Here I Come, Mexico City MTC!!

Well, I finished my two weeks of home MTC! While it has been extraordinary to have learned what I have, it has been kind of hard, too. Watching zoom classes for hours is not the easiest, so I've made sure to get exercise and eat lots of food in between and things like that. I love my teachers and district, and I'm so relieved that I get to be trained with them in addition to my online experience.

What's crazy and exciting for me (in addition to the gospel, of course) is that I dunked a volleyball at the church gym nine days ago! I went to play volleyball and basketball with my family, and I told my Dad to video me once I was jumping at the hoop a few times and realized my potential to touch more than 10 feet. I know it's random to put in this email, but I wanted to because it means I got my inside energy out on the court. I have been able to touch rim for a while now, but I felt like I could push myself further. That's exactly what I did, and I'm proud of myself. Now, I want to push myself to dunk a regular basketball. I had my sister, Camryn, on my shoulders to practice jumping, and once I put her down, it became a little easier to dunk the volleyball and I ended up doing it three times in a row! I thought to myself, just think how much practice having weight on my shoulders and jumping can do for my vertical; with enough, I can probably dunk regularly after enough time and effort.

I think this was neat because I thought to myself how this principle is true with my other goals. I've been thinking a lot lately about SYL (Speak Your Language, for those who didn't know). This is simply because I have been slacking and resorting to English too much. Similar to dunking, I have told myself that I need to put forth time and effort into my mission language to become more comfortable and used to Spanish as I head to an MTC of native speakers. I'll admit that I have gotten lazy with Spanish, and I am going to challenge myself and members of my district to do better with SYL. I am grateful to Heavenly Father for putting grand insights into my head such as this one.

I gave my farewell talk today (June 26th), and I'm thrilled to have shared my testimony of this great work. Thank you to everyone who supported me for that, both in person and on zoom. It was such a great Sunday.

I sure am excited to leave for Mexico City! I have felt this way since the day I received my call. While I love my family and home comforts, I enjoy living away like I did at BYU. I am ready and excited to "embark in the service of God" in a consecrated, missionary environment.

I love the Lord, and I love you all!!
