I'll Drive Where You Want Me To Drive...

To start, I love being a Spanish missionary. I am one of twelve elders in the whole mission who is Spanish speaking, and my companion and I are the only ones in my zone to speak it. Although there are so few of us, there are more opportunities and referrals. The language is coming along, and I'm glad. I am so anxious to be able to understand native Spanish soon. What's crazy is that I have encountered a decent amount of Russian and Ukrainian speaking people, and all we can do is offer a pamphlet. I love the diversity in Kent.

The reason for the title is that my companion and I drove a lot this week, and we have a limit of 50 miles per day. For two days last week, we surpassed that limit for missionary purposes, and it taught me that we have to go to certain lengths to accomplish great things; for us, my companion got to interview a sisters' on-date up in Renton (almost 30 minutes north of our area). It went well, and he got baptized yesterday! Communicating with our zone leaders about all of this was included.

We had a fun time with our contacts and friends. They canceled, weren't home, and were unable to contact. However, according to our trainers, I have what's called "greenie fire", which is an unusual positive energy about being a new missionary. I didn't think these experiences with our contacted people were that hard, but I know it'll hit me further along in my mission. I'm just happy to be learning and improving.

We have two lessons per week with our two on-dates Edelmira and Joel, and they are doing great! They are reading their assignments in the Book of Mormon, keeping the Word of Wisdom, and following the standards and commandments we've taught them. We're excited for September 3rd because they've shown that they're ready.

It was my companion's 20th birthday on the 20th, so it was his golden birthday! I made a big deal about him, and there's a funny video in this week's album of the elders celebrating and going crazy. He's an awesome trainer.

Love you all!
