I Just Love It When The Lord Works Things Out!
Another great week in good old Kent! The weather has been interesting, not gonna lie. It is still warm every day and cloudy in the mornings.
It was my birthday on Tuesday, and it was a lot of fun! I can't believe I'm 20--no longer a teenager. Anyway, I feel so loved by everyone! After zone council, my mission president was there, which was a pleasant surprise! Him and my whole zone sang happy birthday to me. I also got Chick-Fil-A, new basketball shoes, and lots of kind b-day cards. I am really getting into basketball now more than ever before; I play a few times a week for my exercise and p day, and it is pretty fun. Volleyball hops from high school come in handy! What I want to point out about my birthday--most importantly--is that for the first time, my birthday wasn't ACTUALLY about me. It felt different--a good different. I had the privilege to serve God's children on my birthday and each minute is devoted to the Lord anyway. God sent me to Earth twenty years ago, so he deserves the praise for the opportunity I have to experience good and evil, and ultimately draw closer to Jesus Christ.
In a couple of my photos, you might see that my eye looks really bad, but it isn't as bad as it really is. It looks like a black eye from a fight I got into, but it was just me going after the ball during basketball and getting elbowed there by another Elder on accident. All good.
I attended the temple with my companion and two other Elders, so that was fantastic. On the way to the temple, there was a mixture of smoke and fog in the air, so it was thick! It weirded me out a little when I went into the Celestial Room and smelled smoke. Apparently, there were fires nearby, so please pray that it isn't too bad. Other than that, the experiences I have in those walls are always so sacred. I love that about it.
Our friends are doing okay as of right now. Aurora got Gospel Library, so reading the scriptures will be more convenient for her when she's not home. We're excited that she's on-date, so we just need her to attend church twice and be taught a few other things. We are anxious to teach her daughter when she's home, too. Her daughter, Maria, speaks English and is interested in changing her life for the better. For Edelmira and Joel, we finally met in person with them for the first time in weeks! We talked about repentance, and we want to put them back on date. They attend church when work isn't too busy, and they are nice people.
The huge majority of this transfer has been really tough just because my companion and I are VERY different, but this past week felt like a 180 degree turn when Elder Lancaster (my companion) started being more caring, patient, and relatable with me!! I thanked Heavenly Father for this since I've done my best to be patient with him for quite a while. He has been giving great training advice lately, and it has increased our unity. I have to have tough experiences in order to enjoy the pleasant ones.
That's all for this week! Hope you all are decorating your houses for Halloween and making the most of your Fall Season!
Adios!
