Being A Trainer Is Humbling
Welcome back to another week of Elder Jones in Renton, Washington! The temperatures continue to drop, the precipitation continues to descend, and the people continue to progress!
What a week! Elder Miller and I have a lot in common (such as having a deep appreciation for music), and we are able to teach with confidence and the Spirit. It makes a difference as we seek to help others come to know their Savior. It is a good experience to have a companion so that when we have disagreements, we talk it out and work through it.
We made two new friends this week in our English class! They are so nice, and their names are Maria and Bryam. We gave them an invite to the Giving Machine, and they said they wanted to go! We were happy to hear this because I know giving of ourselves helps us feel true joy.
On Friday, our ward had a Christmas party. So many people came to see it! There was lots of food, dances, and a show of acting out the Nativity and Samuel the Lamanite. One of our friends--Rosio--brought her family to the activity, and she felt so welcome. This is how we always want people to feel about our church.
I went on an exchange with a different missionary named Elder Riggs on Saturday. During that exchange, we contacted a friend who's been coming to church for a long time and has a growing testimony. I had a good 25 minute conversation with him in Spanish, and he accepted a baptismal date of January 7th!! We are so thrilled and are praying for him as we help prepare him for this special day.
Overall, training Elder Miller is a really good way for me to grow and know how to be a better missionary. It is hard a lot of days, but it helps me remember to get on his level and show him the way. It breaks down my pride and reminds me that I too need the Savior's help through my imperfections.
I am touched as I read about our Redeemer and strive to be like Him. What a wonderful opportunity it is to celebrate his miraculous birth in six days. Love you all, and have a pleasant Christmas!!
