Solid Friends Are The Best
I have to say it--Elder Miller and I eat some great foods! We made some wings one night, and they were tasty. Elder Miller knows his stuff in terms of spices, cooking, and secret ingredients. It's one of his biggest strengths!
Anyway, this week was a great one. There were some slower days, but at least we met several new friends! We met a young couple as they were walking into their apartment, and when we asked if we could help them or even talk about what we do, they were open to it! We had a lesson with them and found out they speak Spanish AND Portuguese! They are originally from the Amazon, so it's pretty cool! As we spoke with them, they said a few Portuguese words here and there and almost threw me off. However, I appreciated how nice they were to us. We gave them a Spanish copy of the Book of Mormon, and we'll be giving them a Portuguese one as well in the next week or so. So excited to talk with them again here soon!
On Saturday morning, I did some tracting with Elder Miller. I got to teach him some tips on what to say and do when people close the door early or say they aren't interested. Tracting (knocking door to door on places not previously tried) is interesting as we seek out Spanish speakers.
Juan Pablo is doing great! He is coming to church as normal and is going to receive the priesthood on Sunday! He is preparing to go to the temple with us in the next few weeks. We love his energy for the gospel. Whenever he tells us about something unfortunate happening, he usually adds that God wants him to express trust and patience. We love hearing things like this, and we're so proud of him!
Our English class is thriving now! We have had no shows for a few weeks in last transfer, but now we have a steady 4-6 people coming, and they seek to learn English with sincerity. We invited them to come play soccer at our church building on Saturday, and one of them came!! He was pretty good with the ball, and it looked like he had fun. Anyways, our class is great because Elder Miller also really likes teaching this difficult language.
Back to the soccer event. Three friends total came! Israel, Jesús (the English class student), and Jose Tello! Jose is a friend who we've been unable to contact while we've been in Renton, but we're gonna change that. He was ready for baptism at one point, but we're gonna start meeting with him finally. Israel is our good friend who we're helping to come to church more often and committing to meet in person for lessons/visits. The soccer activity was a huge success! Elder Miller and I don't enjoy soccer all that much, but we had a ton of fun playing in the gym! I was goalie, and I like to think that I did pretty good! Juan Pablo was there, and he is insane!! He knows how to get past four people without struggling. I think it's because he was wearing his lucky Chilean fútbol club jersey. Mucho divertido esa noche!
Things are great overall. I had a couple moments of disagreement and small argument with Elder Miller, but it's all part of learning about each other and training. As long as we apologize, forgive one another, and move on, we are in a good place. This is how the Savior wants it. I learned this week not to hold grudges or let small issues ruin my mood. Instead, I ought to remember the Savior; He dealt with people who spat in His face, hated Him, betrayed Him, and ultimately ended His life. I'm learning to be more like the Savior and love others through difficulty.
I like to count my blessings and take each day one at a time. That's my advice for each of you. The Savior wants us to love and be loved.
De todos modos, este es todo! Español es el mejor. Espero que ustedes disfrutan su semana! Les amo!!
